SONGWRITING

“Writing with Jack is such an easy experience, not only does he have a great ear for a melody or lyric, but he also acts as one with a band. His range of ability on Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals (backing and lead) and production is impressive”

- Matty Long, Matty Long and the LoveGuns

Writing songs has been a passion of Jack Henry’s since his early teens. Having begun writing punk/pop punk melodies with an acoustic guitar and notebook, he went on to spend the majority of his teenage years playing in many genres of rock bands, expanding his skills to include indie, funk and psychedelia. A love for hip-hop arose when he first listened to “The Slim Shady LP” by Eminem, sending Henry into a path of lyric study and admiration for the style, lyrically and musically. A desire to combine the rock aspects with the hip-hop style led him to front a band called Dirty Snakes.

Jack Henry’s hip-hop love led to him working with hip-hop, drum and bass, garage and dance producers at university: his production understanding and rap capabilities make him an easy collaborator. Working with more electronic production has driven him to exploring pop, synth-wave, wonky funk and many other genres. His current writing credits include: Matty Long and the LoveGuns, Dirty Snakes, Ripley, Sapiens and Fendley.
